Martial Arts Dance Fighting

Is Tai Chi right for me?

I’ve recently fallen in love with martia arts, not the fighting part of it, but the meditation and art of it. I want to learn a type of martial arts that is swift and includes meditative techniques, but isn’t exactly slow. I thought about Tai Chi, but all of the videos I have watched on it seem like it’s more of a dance, and I want something that has more action in it. Can anyone help me out?

ps: I know this sounds stupid, but if you saw the movie “the fountain”, the scene where Tom is silhoetted against the stary background has the martial arts I would like to learn.

Actually it may be perfect for you. Sure Tai Chi in the early stages is not a very effective Martial Art, but in the LONG RUN, it is very effective because you learn to move and use your opponents energy against them and for your favor. It is also wonderful for the internal quest that you will undertake as well. You say that meditation and such is important to you so I would say Tai Chi would be good for you IMO.

It has many benefits to it with your health and maintaining your energy levels as well as manipulating your Chi (Ki) better than many other art forms teach. It is a long journey on the Tai Chi path but if you stay with it then it will be a well worthy path to have taken.

Enjoy it.
